World Youth Day 2013 – “Be Generous with Christ”
These photos sum up the strength of support for Pope Francis and The Church and all it proclaims! In these times when the Catholic Church is criticised from all directions, it is heartening to see how many young people were willing to attend and witness to Christ. Pope Francis full sermon can be read at http://www.catholicworldreport.com/Blog/2460/pope_francis_closing_mass_homily_at_wyd_full_text.aspx
During the closing mass a family who had presented their child who has anencephaly, to the Pope earlier on in Brazil, was asked by Pope Frances to do the offertory. The Vatican’s press officer said this would be a ” as a gesture of welcome and offering of a life to God.” as this family were offered abortion and it would have been legal to have an abortion due to the severity of their childs’ condition. They refused.
This gesture by the Pope elevated the cause of life and ensured the world was focused on the closing mass on one of the most important elements of the Church’s teaching – the sanctity of life.
