Forced Abortion Triumph

Life site news has reported some good news in the harrowing but courageous story of Chen Guangcheng, the Chinese human rights activist who among other things brought the worlds’ attention to the forced abortion situation in China.  He was put under house arrest and during this time, the Batman actor, Christian Bale, tried to visit him but was chased away by menacing officials!  Eventually, he escaped house arrest and fled to the U.S. where he now lives.

The full horror of his story, bravery and the abuses he stood up to are beyond our experiences.  Also it is not everyday that a Hollywood actor who has such standing having  starred in a successful film franchaise, stands up for a human rights activist like Chen who is speaking out against forced abortion.  It is not trendy or especially good for his career!  Now Chen Guangcheng has been given an award by Human Rights First which was presented by Christian Bale which you can see at http://

Christian Bale honours Chen Guangcheng

Bale praised Chen for his bravery and for symbolizing the hopes of the people of China to live in freedom.  Significantly, Bale also highlighted Chen’s fight against forced abortion in China.  Bale stated,

“He [Chen] had exposed a program of forced abortion and sterilization in Shandong.  A program of forced abortion means that women are being dragged from their homes against their will.  They are being forced to have abortions, sometimes late-term—imagine that—with some women reportedly dying in the process.  Now this is true horror.  And in this insane world, this man, Chen, who was helping these women—who was living by some of the most simple, brave and universally admired values – values that we teach our children every day, and helping our fellow man – for this, this man was imprisoned and beaten for over four years.”

I am sure there are some people who look at the Chinese situation regarding abortion and believe it is completely different from the legal abortion taking place in Western countries like the U.K.  But it isn’t.  Vulnerable women are coerced, forced, persuaded that abortion is the best outcome for their baby. But where ever you are in the world when an abortion happens it means certain death for the baby, and a lifetime of regret and guilt for the mother end of.  So let us take our hats off to Christian Bale for risking unpopularity and derision in the world of Hollywood for the plight of those Chinese women forced to abort their unborn children.
