Over Population??

31Oct11

There has been so much air space given to the news that the United Nations Population Division has predicted that today 31st October 2011 the 7th billion child will be born. Not surprisingly this news has been greeted with talk of overpopulation and solutions to it so it is important that we counter any of this sort of talk with real facts.

Steven Mosher, President of Population Research Institute is giving a talk http://www.prolifeblogs.com/articles/archives/2011/10/population_rese_1.php today at The National Press Club, Washington D.C. on this very topic and has many good things to say on this topic including

Humanitys’ long term problem is not going to be too many children but too few.The main problem we have with the overpopulation theory (besides it being untrue) is that the proponents usually come to the conclusion that abortion is the solution if contraception doesn’t work.

This was seen clearly last week on an edition of Newsnight when the author Lionel Shriver the patron of Population Matters debating this whole issue and Lionel Shrivers’ solution at the end of the debate is abortionhttp://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b016mw21/Newsnight_26_10_2011/. Have a look and scroll through the programme til the last quarter of the programme to see this debate.  Very interesting and disturbing at the same time.
